“Robustness is when you care more about the few who like your work than the multitude who hates it (artists); fragility is when you care more about the few who hate your work than the multitude who loves it (politicians).”—Nassim Taleb, via Tim Ferriss
I’m very excited to be profiled on IdeaMensch! As I try to get the word out about my various businesses, any exposure helps, and this will be very good for me I hope. Step by step, block by block a personal reputation is built.
I have barely had a chance to breathe in the past couple of weeks. We launched Unicorn Booty on April 15, right after I got back from the shoot in England. It has been non-stop ever since, but people have been responding to the site and we have managed to sell a bunch of days! This month we should recoup startup costs and be in a place to begin launching a redesign on the site and get it out of Beta. It’s all very exciting! I wish I had the mental capacity to blog as we were launching this start-up, but I can barely put my pants on the right way these days. We are starting to learn how to balance work and life, and starting to batch the tasks that we can to save time. We are also looking at hiring an intern and perhaps outsourcing some of the work so we can also save money with our time.
My goal this month, as I turn 27, is to start working more on my travel videos again. I am flying back to Seattle in 30 minutes, and I am planning on editing a couple of the England videos. I need to get some content up on my YouTube channel, because I literally just hit 3,000 subscribers on YouTube! Eeeeeeekkk! So proud to see it grow, especially as I was just at 500 about 6 weeks ago. It will only get bigger and better as time goes on, as that is the way that the viral net works.
So I want to get a video out there and show them what I am all about, and also to see if having a lot of subscribers actually does anything for your views. I know that you have to post content regularly, which is going to be a challenge for me. But I am up for it! I look forward to being able to engage a continually larger audience in the narrative of travel. Exciting!
