The Revolution Will Be
The Revolution is indeed on the way, I can feel it! I was walking around downtown SF yesterday, passing all these windows of products and shiny women semi-nude in advertisements…and I had this sudden surge of hatred for society. I felt like I did not belong here, that I could not function here, that I could not breathe here.  All these shiny objects, these products that we are told will...

The Oscars
The Oscars were great this year. Not that I have ever really watched the Oscars that regularly.  I do remember staying up late at night in Switzerland to watch the live telecast - the only other time we did that was for the Super Bowl.  There is just something cool about being part of a worldwide event, a shared world moment. And what a moment this year was: a film about a gay man and a film...

The Best Job in the World, without electricity
I finally got my application for the Island Reef Job (www.islandreefjob.com) uploaded.  There have been some horror stories of people waiting for 22 hours, sitting there, trying to  get their video applications submitted before the deadline.  It took me 8 hours - I’ll take it. I feel relieved that its uploaded and out of my hands, and, as always, hopefully optimistic that I am going to make...

Has the economy affected the way we travel? →
I just hope that whatever habit changes will remain once we all start being rich again - I bet we are just going to forget this and go back to our huge SUVs and wasting energy…think before you travel, and travel with a conscience!  Its a hard thing to remember, but every single decision you make in your life affects those around you…strangers and friends alike.

Canon 5D Mark II shoots HD video →
The images taken from this camera are jaw-dropping. What is this going to mean for the divide between photographers and videographers? I think the photographers might now have an advantage, because they are able to apply their knowledge of lenses and depth of field and quickly adapt to shooting video.

Lykke Li consumes me at the Fillmore
My first show ever in Bill Graham’s historied SF venue the Fillmore was 22-year-old Lykke Li. She consumed me.  I was aboslutely enthralled with her quirkiness, her inventiveness, her wildy mousy voice, her commanding on-stage presence. She was electric, hypnotic, erotic, confident, sexy. She was a goddess, someone who was feeling the groove and reflecting it straight back into the...

Thoughts, Takeaways and More Thoughts from the...
The User Generated Content Conference and Expo in San Jose was a mixed bag. While I was expecting more exhibitors and more content creators, there were still plenty of folk from the UGC world: Technorati, Mashable, Google, Craigslist, CafePress, iStockPhoto…those are just some of the bigger ones. I’m sure I forgot many important people, and of course there were heaps of folks from...

User Generated Content Expo, San Jose
As I write this, my bag is magically packing itself (making sure to get that toothbrush and borrowed HD handycam) and I am heading out of SF for San Jose.  Starting tomorrow, the Convention Center will be taken over by the User Generated Content Expo - promising to solve the YouTube-old question of how to make money from UGC.  Forsaking a few other film opportunities (including the chance to...
