There is nothing more fulfilling - and positively stressful - than a family vacation. The opportunity to spend time with everyone in the family is wonderful. But the reality of trying to corral seven different, fiercely individual, personalities is often a nightmare. It’s like dealing with seven 2-year olds, all screaming for attention at once.
Regardless, I look back on the week I just spent with momma, poppa, sister, brother and others…and I just smile. In the moment, things can be tough, the boat is rocked, and voices become aggravated. Put a little time between us and it all starts to look peachy keen. Ziplining over rainforests, long dinners of Mexican food and wine, beaches, laughs, homeless people puking in front of the hotel. Ahhhhhh. I can almost smell it now.
It was wonderful and amazing and all that jazz. That doesn’t mean that I am not ready to get back into my little selfish world of traveling, though. Bring it on, road! Bring it on, overnight buses! Bring it on, border crossing guards! Bring it on, life!
